1951 Deadwood Rotary Club "Days of '76" Committee
Picture courtesy of Black Hills Studio: The is the Deadwood Days of '76 Committee which my Dad Glen headed up in 1951. He is in the center of the picture. I don't remember where the western duds come from. In foreground is Movie Actors/Actress; Guy Madison, Gail Russel, and Andy Devine. I was a bell hop at the Franklin Hotel and checked them in. I remember that Gail was a chain smoker (see her hand) and I had to delivery many bottles of booze to their room. Andy was very nice. The hotel staff was told to give them their space. The Deadwood accommodations must have seemed like a pit to them.
Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Many of the Deadwood professions are represented in this group. Funny, the grave stone maker is standing next to the mortician.
